May 24 Webinar on “A Roadmap for Ending the COVID-19 Pandemic” (w/ J-E simultaneous interpretation)

May 12, 2022

COVID-19 continues to spread in countries around the world, but many governments are now rolling back social restrictions. How much longer will we need to live with the pandemic? Will a game changer emerge enabling a return to normalcy?

On May 24, the Tokyo Foundation for Policy Research will host a public webinar featuring Mitsuru Mukaigawara of Harvard University, who recently published an article in the journal Nature Medicine (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-022-01787-2.pdf) on an “equitable roadmap” for ending the pandemic, calling for a broad distribution of vaccines and therapeutics, responsive public health plans, and policies to protect the vulnerable.

Joining the discussion on possible ways to end the pandemic are Tokyo Foundation Research Director Keiichiro Kobayashi, a member of the government’s Subcommittee on Novel Coronavirus Disease Control; Research Director Kenji Shibuya, former professor and director of the Institute for Population Health at King’s College London; Senior Fellow Yasuharu Tokuda, director of the Muribushi Okinawa Center for Teaching Hospitals; Yik-Ying Teo, dean of the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health at the National University of Singapore; and US infectious disease specialist Payal K. Patel, assistant professor at Michigan Medicine (University of Michigan). The panelists will bring diverse perspectives on the path to a COVID-free world, drawing on case studies from Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and other countries.

After the presentation and panel discussion, there will be time for questions and answers, so please feel free to pose a question to the panelists. While questions can be asked through the chat feature, we also encourage you to send in questions in advance when registering.
