On February 13, 2026, Dr. Yuta Komori, Director of Policy Research at the Tokyo Foundation held an exchange of views with Mr. Priyal Singh, Senior Researcher at the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) in South Africa. This meeting was conducted in collaboration with the Ocean Policy Research Institute (OPRI) of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF). The exchange was realized at the request of the ISS.

The participants discussed the nature of multilateral cooperation within the G20 and BRICS from a geopolitical perspective, as well as the challenges South Africa faces within these frameworks. Furthermore, they engaged in a constructive dialogue regarding South Africa’s role in maritime security policy within the African region and addressing global challenges such as climate change.

The Tokyo Foundation will continue to strengthen our international network through such dialogues, developing effective policy recommendations to address social issues both in Japan and overseas.
