Exchanged Views with the Brookings Institution, a U.S. Think Tank

In late October 2025, Dr. Mieko Nakabayashi, President of the Tokyo Foundation, held discussions with Dr. Ben Harris, Vice President of the Brookings Institution. The Brookings Institution is a world-leading public policy think tank based in Washington D.C., U.S.A., known for its broad research across various fields that influence policy formulation. The meeting was initiated by the Brookings Institution.

The two parties discussed Japan-U.S. diplomacy, particularly the future outlook for bilateral relations between Japan, under the new Takaichi administration, and the U.S., led by President Trump. They also deliberated on U.S.-China relations and trade negotiations between the U.S. and its allies. Expert and constructive opinions were exchanged on diverse fields such as energy relations, the economic impact of AI, and DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) within the United States. Additionally, positive discussions were held regarding strengthening collaboration between the two organizations and the potential for joint initiatives.

The Tokyo Foundation will continue to actively create opportunities for international policy dialogue.
