I graduated from the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Law, Gakushuin University, and joined NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) in 1992. As a director in the News Division, I produced a number of programs, including NHK Special and Close-up Gendai (Today's Close-up). After serving as a director at the Radio Center, I became a member of the Media Research Department at the NHK Broadcasting Culture Research Institute in 2010, where I remained for 14 years. My research focused on broadcasting policy, issues related to NHK and public service broadcasting, regional media, and the dissemination of disaster information. I took early retirement from NHK at the end of January 2025 and currently work as an independent media researcher. My professional activities include research, surveys, public lectures, writing, and education. Through continuous monitoring of policy and industry trends, I combine a bird’s-eye perspective with a field-based approach grounded in on-site research to raise and explore key issues in contemporary media and society.
