Bio
After graduating from Chuo University, joined the Sankei Shimbun. Later became an independent commentator after holding several positions, including Political News Editor and Editorial Writer. Concurrently holds several positions, including: Member of the Management Council and Visiting Professor at Kochi University; Visiting Professor at Taisho University; a member of expert committees for the Cabinet Secretariat's Council for Regional Revitalization, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and the National Personnel Authority; Visiting Editorial Writer for the Sankei Shimbun; Special Advisor to the bipartisan “Parliamentary Group for Population Decline Strategy”; and a member of the "Reiwa Rincho" (Reinventing Infrastructure of Wisdom and Action (ReIWA)). Previous roles include serving on expert committees for the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and as a Visiting Researcher at the Japan Medical Association Research Institute (JMARI). Conceived and helped establish the “Japan Medical Association Akahige Award." Has received numerous accolades, including the Grand Prize of the Pfizer Medical Journalism Award and the Bungeishunju Readers' Award. As the author of the bestselling "Mirai no Nenpyo" (Future Chronology) series (Kodansha Gendai Shinsho), which has sold over one million copies, is a leading authority in Japan on the issue of population decline and spearheads the public discourse on the topic.
