Visiting researcher, Jiji Research Institute; Member, Planning Committee, Japan National Press Club.

After graduating from Waseda University in 1972, joined Jiji Press. Started his career as a political journalist in the kisha club (reporters’ club) at the Prime Minister’s Official Residence (responsible for coverage of Kakuei Tanaka). After working in kisha clubs at the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Labor, became chief staff writer of the LDP kisha club in 1976, deputy manager of the Political News Desk and chief staff writer of the Prime Minister’s Official Residence kisha club in 1990, a full-time editor of the Political News Desk in 1994, manager of the Political News Desk in 1998, assistant deputy director and commentator in the Editorial Department in 2000, manager of the Fukuoka Branch in 2002, and permanent director of the Research Institute of Japan in June 2004. Was director of editing at Jiji Press from June 2006 through June 2009.
