The Melbourne Centre for Japanese Language Education

The Melbourne Centre for Japanese Language Education is committed to improving the teaching of Japanese in the three southern states of Australia, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. Support is provided primarily by assisting Japanese language teachers who wish to upgrade their qualifications: by promoting the development of curricula designed to meet the specific needs of Australian students; and by adding to the opportunities for networking and for exchanging information among teachers of Japanese in the three states. Specific activities that promote these aims include: organising in-service training programs; offering lectures and workshops; providing study and travel grants for teachers of Japanese; developing teaching materials; expanding its resource collection; research on the needs and aspirations of Japanese language teachers and students of Japanese; publication of a quarterly electronic newsletter; and development of the MCJLE website.
Nippon Foundation Funds for Japanese Language Education Program (NF-JLEP)
The Melbourne Centre for Japanese Language Education does not offer specific language education programs but rather offers teacher training courses, lectures and seminars to teachers of Japanese for professional development with the fund of NF-JLEP fund. It also supports teaching materials development and research activities to promote Japanese language education in Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.
