PROFILE:
Became a dentist after graduating from the Tohoku University School of Dentistry. Attended the New School for Social Research, where he received his MA in political science. In 1996 became an adjunct fellow at CSIS, going on to be Japan chair, researcher, senior researcher, and lead researcher as of March 2003.
