Bio

Holds a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in International Relations from the University of Tokyo. Her paper, based on a graduation thesis concerning cultural exchange through ikebana, received the best paper award in the 1982 compilation published on the thirtieth anniversary of the university's Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Taught English at a secondary school for five years following graduation, and spent a total of 13 years, between 1988 and 2005, in the United States and Britain, translating, on a freelance basis, public communication and in-house training materials for US and British companies seeking to enter the Japanese market. Her overseas experience enabled her to observe the US and British educational systems—from the preschool to graduate-school levels—and to compare them to the system in Japan. She also has familiarity with the education of Japanese nationals living abroad and the utilization of Japanese human resources with overseas experience. Worked for the Japan Foundation between 2005 and 2008 and joined the Tokyo Foundation in 2008. Was senior editor of the English website between 2008 and 2011. Is responsible for the Tokyo Foundation's partnership with the Acumen Fund. In summer 2012, she organized a visit to areas affected by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami by Sylff fellows from three music schools, who led workshops for members of middle and high school wind ensembles in Tohoku and performed with them as the Michinoku Wind Orchestra in a Suntory Hall concert in Tokyo. Became a director for leadership development in July 2013.
