Bio

Naoko Eto is a research fellow in the East Asian Studies Group of the Area Studies Center at the Institute of Developing Economies (IDE), Japan External Trade Organization. Her research interests include Chinese policy, Japan-China relations, and international relations in East Asia. She received her MA in International Policy Studies from Stanford University and her PhD in Law from Keio University. She has been a research fellow at the National Institutes for the Humanities (NIHU) Center for Area Studies, visiting research fellow at the Institute of East Asian Studies, Keio University, visiting scholar at Peking University, and joined the IDE East Asian Studies Group in 2014. Major works include Japan in Chinese Nationalism: The Changes of “Patriotism” and History Recognition, Keiso Shobo, 2014, and “The First Textbook Dispute 1979–1982,” in History of Japan-China Relations 19722012: 1 Political Relations, ed. A. Takahara and R Hattori, University of Tokyo Press, 2012.
