Bio

Laura Emily Clark is a PhD candidate at the University of Queensland. Her research interests focus on the intersections between contemporary Japanese society and its representation in popular cultural productions. Her thesis project investigates the representation of shifting gender ideals within the works of Haruki Murakami. She was a recipient of the Tokyo Foundation’s Queensland Program for Japanese Education and undertook a short research project at Waseda University. She was selected as a Japan Foundation Fellow in 2017. Previous publications in English can be found online in New Voices in Japanese Studies and the Electronic Journal in Contemporary Japanese Studies.
